Sweet, tolerant Daisy has been looking for a home for several months. She’s available from Humane Society Silicon Valley in Milpitas, CA. To help her get more exposure, she’s started modeling different outfits on our twitter feed. While she’s always a good sport, she rues the loss of her dignity. Daisy is eleven and a very active senior. She’s housebroken and good with kids, knows a host of cute tricks but would prefer to be an only dog. She’s definitely a staff and volunteer favorite – she helps out with the kids in our Education programs sometimes – but she really deserves a home of her own.

Cooper is our two year old foster dog. He is a hoarder. We can look past it though because he doesn’t chew up any of it…just collects it! Cooper is from No Dog Left Behind Rescue in Brooklyn Centre, MN. Cooper is a fun, quirky little cuddle bug. He likes to be next to or on whoever is willing to give him some love. He enjoys being picked up and held. While he can initially be a little timid, once he warms up he is a happy fun-loving dog. He loves to be outside playing with other dogs or just walking around the yard. Cooper loves rawhides, and anything else he can put in his “nest.” He is happy in his crate, but good when outside of it. Little 9 pound Leo is the ultimate playmate! Big dogs, small dogs, kids of all shapes and size will find him ready to play anytime! He is available through A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue & Fixin’) in Cookeville, TN.

Leo’s favourite game is pushing his 60 pound foster sister off Momma’s bed. He has a high energy level, and needs a home where he will have lots of play and exercise. Don’t be fooled by his small size, this happy boy makes a great walking companion, and is ready to curl up beside you while you read or watch tv. He would be a great addition to a young family or an adoring companion to an active retiree.

Bailey is a 3.5 year old Border Collie/Shepherd Mix that managed to infiltrate the ranks of a Jasmine’s House Pit Bull Rescue. In fact, she is so exceptionally well-mannered, bright, and regal that she hitched a ride with them from Utah all the way to her foster mom (me) in Frederick, MD!

Here she is patiently helping me clean my room and demonstrating her beautiful sit while looking only the slightest bit worried that we might be on to her (don’t worry, Bailey; we’re entirely on to you, but we love you anyway!)

She would absolutely thrive in a home that will continue to focus her intelligence and focus with positive reinforcement based training and consistency. She’s already been clicker-trained with hand signals and would love a chance to build on that in advanced classes (you’ve heard the joke about Border Collies and a light bulb, right–that’s Bailey!).

Being as she’s a Shepherd/Border Collie, she has a tendency to try to “herd” other small animals including the neighbourhood stray cats, so a cat-free household would probably best, and there would have to be a meet and greet with other dogs.

One of our readers, Bailey, sent me an email telling me that her lovely rescue pup, Osiris, had recently eaten her Big Bang Theory DVDs!!!

Here’s what Bailey wrote:

“This is my rescue Osiris. I was cleaning the house the week we brought him home. The house was silent and of course that means no good so I went on a dog hunt. Lo and behold little Osiris was wedged behind the recliner chewing my Big Bang Theory DVD…… I was not impressed…

We adopted him from Adoptapaw Pet Haven in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. He is originally from Los Angeles where he came into the shelter as a stray. He was pulled, and transported North, to Saskatoon. We then drove from Airdrie, Alberta (7-hour one way) and adopted him on the spot…. “

My foster mom put me in the cone of shame because I tried to eat my tumor. I AM NOT ASHAMED! I am protesting by refusing to move while wearing the cone!
– Jake, 13-year- old diabetic terrier mix whose owner relinquished him to the Animal Protective League in Springfield, IL. The tumor on his leg appears to be benign and isn’t causing him discomfort. But, he won’t stop licking and chewing at it. We hope it will heal up on its own now that he’s wearing the cone.

I refuse to use the dog stairs next to my Foster Mom’s bed, forcing her to pick me up like a baby every time I want to get in the bed to cuddle! I have no shame! – Janet is a 2-3 month old Weimaraner mix with a deep chocolate coat from Mobile, AB. She is doing great with potty training, and sleeps well in her crate at night and while her foster mom is at work. She shows no food aggression towards other dogs and does not mind cats. Chloe is 7-year-old terrier/warthog mix available for adoption through Dog & Kitty City in Dallas, TX. She has been in the shelter for two long years, which is two years too long! She is spayed and micro-chipped, fully house-broken and walks great on a leash. She is very picky about her dog friends, so we recommend that she be the queen of the single-dog household. Chloe will do best with an experienced dog handler who will confidently take her on regular walks but will also be patient with her transition into a well-rounded and loved dog.

Duchess is an extremely sweet pittie mix available in the Washington, DC area from Rural Dog Rescue. She’s older (about 7 to 9) but still has tons of energy. She loves to give kisses, play with her ball, and when she’s tired, plop down like a frog to the delight of everyone around. She has a sad back story – her owner couldn’t afford to keep her and ditched her at doggie day care – but all of us adore her and want to find her a loving home. Check out her profile at here.

I destroyed my bed while my foster parents were not around, I want a nicer bed!

Beasley came into the shelter as a 4 months old male stray. He’s now 20 lbs, up to date on vaccines and preventives, will be neutered & microchipped next week. They live in Leesburg, VA and are being adopted out through Save The Tails Rescue.

Beasly is a gentle lil puppy, but will be quite large when fully grown. Beasley didn’t want to eat at first so the foster family’s 4 year old little girl hand fed him, he was as gentle as can be. He is great with kids and will be fine with cats. A home with another dog would be best for him, it will build his confidence to learn how to play from a little older dog.
