Third time skunked – my mom never learns. I am ashamed 🙁
I STINK and mom didn’t think to turn the furnace off as my smelly fumes made it through the whole house in under a minute. Spring must be coming early and mom should have been paying attention to me instead of packing lunches and trying to get ready for work. Oh well, at least my human brother didn’t stink when he went to school but my dad’s friend knew just what happened when he picked him up for work. LOL! At least I get to spend the day with mom while she airs out the house with the temps outside at 30F/-1C.

Skunk-be-gone recipe: 1 quart hydrogen peroxide + 1/4 cup baking soda + 1 tsp dish detergent. Mix gently. DO NOT WET DOG FIRST, then wear gloves and rub solution into affected areas. Lather up, rinse, repeat. The hydrogen peroxide will break the disulfide bonds in the skunk oil, the baking soda deodorizes, and the soap breaks down the oil. It really works.

Even easier – coca cola – Put the dog in the bath, pour the coke over and sponge wash (wear rubber gloves) – rinse – may need to do this twice – but I have friends who swear it works. If you are sprayed as well, use a sponge and coke in the shower – honest!

Dealt with 5 skunk incidents in 2 years on my boxers in SoCal and started carrying an emergency skunk kit in the car with the baking soda peroxide mix. It’s amazing! You can put them right in the car after without the car smelling of skunk.
