My Yorkie does the same thing!!! It’s a nervous habit. Depending on how bad it is you can have your dog put on a low dose of zanax. The licking has calmed down a lot. 🙂
Sometimes dogs like to lick our residual sweat, blood and whatever other bodily fluids get left behind. I’ve even noticed that if they “express” somewhere (if you don’t know what this is you’ll have to google it, I’m definitely not explaining here!), they will take great pains to clean lick it thoroughly. This is not a nervous habit in this case.
Our dog Bella does that, except she sucks her blanket or our blanket, or whatever she wants to lay on. LOL! She’s 9, but it’s like she’s nursing again. I think it soothes her.
I had a dog years ago who, like Sarah’s dog, would suck on the couch cushions and blankets before he would get comfy and lay down. He was a Shepard/Dobie mix and sometimes I used to joke that I should just buy him a pacifier lol. As for the licking, my granddog, a puggle, licks the heck out of my daughter and son-in-law’s couch. Finally got her some couch covers…which I’m sure she’ll lick too 🙂
Meant to add that the two dogs I have now are fortunately, not lickers. The only time there will be some dog lick on the blanket or couch is if they were licking their paws or grooming themselves. Nice to be able to just throw a couch cover or blanket in the wash 🙂
I have a rat terrier puppy. He will lick the sheets on the bed for a long time before falling asleep or when he wakes up. He leaves large wet spots. If I put my leg under his head he will start licking my leg instead. I think it’s kinda weird and sometimes annoying. Also don’t like the big wet spots on my bed.

My dog does that too, he licks everything. I think it soothes him.

My dog does it to my husband’s pillow and my other dog just does a spot on the sheet!

My dog does this too. Bed and sofa. She’s not a yorkie though. She’s a lab/shepherd cross
