“The vet said I was fat, so i came home and stole my mom’s dinner (1/2 a pizza) off the counter and ate it. I was stressed. Lexi”
You know your dog is overweight when the vet uses words like “biggest loser challenge”… and then my pup comes home and stole my dinner off the counter. NO SHAME.

OMG That is the funniest thing I have heard in a while! Poor girl, that cruel, cruel Vet making fun of her. She’s not fat, she’s just “fluffy”. Doesn’t he know that he will cause her to stress eat from that bullying??!
Rave
Poor Lexi! I know a big boy who looks just like her, he’s a food thief/chowhound with no shame too. He’ll plant himself at the feet of anyone who’s eating and give them the “you know you wanna give me some” puppy-dog look. Used to throw him dried apricots, he loved those.

I have an Italian Greyhound that had to go on a diet, and it was rough. One great diet tip from the vet was to give him plain rice cakes as a treat. Lots of fiber to fill his tummy, with a low calorie count.
Mandi
Atleast he didn’t say you needed to lose weight also. Which my vet said.
annalee
oh no he did not!

Poor Lexi….I switched my dog to gluten-free food a couple years ago and she’s really slimmed down…

Our black Lab, Mollie, was tested for diabetes, thyroid, everything. The vet put her on a diet of a cup of diet dog food and a half a can of unsalted green beans. she lost 40 lbs. She loves green beans!

I used the green bean diet on my baby (very successful). She loves her green beans, too, but had to fight the cat off to get any. 🙂

Mandi – OUCH. I’d ditch that Vet, that’s really, really not nice!!! I hope your pooch gave him the evil side-eye when he said that! I have 2 labs, when the Ex left, I changed their diet, they lost tons of weight & now they love carrots! I also make them low fat doggie biscuits, they are really easy & the dogs love them. I do veggie with broccoli, carrots, parsnips and apple 🙂

Not nice, Vet! You hurt Lexi’s feelings!
Sara
Apples are great treats too! My lab pit mix loves them!

My vet tried to give me that old “put veggies in her kibble” trick. Obviously, he underestimated my Arwen’s ability to eat around the veg and leave a half-cup of perfectly polished green beans in her bowl.
